Restorative yoga is a practice of conscious relaxation that cultivates profound rest through passively held, supported poses. Precisely placed props allow for the effortless release of physical tension and mental stress, revealing our innate capacity for healing, integration, and well-being. While restorative yoga can be offered as a complete class, the postures can also add depth to regular yoga classes and create profound experiences for private clients.

This Yoga for Slow Living™ training, created and facilitated by Rhoda Miriam, is for yoga teachers who want to experience the benefits of restorative yoga and learn to offer it to others. Over two weekends, participants will learn the art and craft of creating supported postures for individuals as well as how to lead a group practice. Students will have an opportunity to both experience and lead practice sessions.

Topics will include:

  • Savasana: the foundation of restorative yoga
  • Key poses for your restorative repertoire
  • How to guide a restorative practice
  • Language skills that invite relaxation

As with all yoga, restorative yoga must be deeply experienced before it can be taught.  Each weekend will include time to receive the postures, and students are strongly encouraged to pursue their own restorative practice during the month between sessions.

If you’d like to get to know Rhoda and experience restorative yoga before signing up, please consider attending one of her upcoming Restorative Yoga workshops: Friday, Nov 23, 3-5:30p; 2019 dates TBA.  These workshops will include a discussion of the principles of restorative yoga and a complete practice that covers the major poses.  Teachers who wish to register for the training can apply the workshop fee ($40 value) towards the cost of the training.

Cost:
$495, includes admission to one of Rhoda's 2018-2019 Restorative Yoga workshops on a space-available basis.

Prerequisites: Certified yoga teacher. Teachers in training, massage therapists and other somatic professionals are welcome, pending a discussion with Rhoda.

Continuing Education: Students who complete the 20-hour, two-weekend program receive a Certificate of Attendance which can be used to satisfy Yoga Alliance continuing education (CE) requirements.

About Rhoda Miriam

As founder of Yoga for Slow Living™, Rhoda has been encouraging students and clients to slow down since 1993. She specializes in facilitating techniques for managing stress, chronic pain and anxiety disorders like PTSD. The practices on her CD, “Relax with Rhoda” offer ways to sustain a calm mind and a relaxed body.

Rhoda holds the Yoga Alliance 500-hour experienced teacher designation (ERYT500). She has earned advanced certifications as a professional-level Yoga teacher from the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, as an iRest® Yoga Nidra teacher from Richard Miller at the Integrative Restoration Institute, and as a Relax and Renew® Restorative Yoga trainer from Judith Hanson Lasater. She is a certified Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy practitioner and mentor. Additionally she has been certified by the Arthritis Foundation and trained by the National MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Society.

Along with offering group classes, workshops and trainings in Yoga Nidra and Restorative Yoga, Rhoda conducts private sessions in therapeutic Yoga, guided Meditation, and relaxation therapy in person and by phone. Her unique series, “The Art of Mindful Slow Living,” offers guidance and mentoring to help individuals learn more about how to experience healthy, harmonious and happy lives.
